Issue XIX, Volume III

Welcome to the nineteenth issue of the Onlinegigs Booking & Promotional Tips monthly newsletter, Volume III. This month we're passing along info about the importance of using contracts as part of your booking process. Contracts can be very elaborate with 40 page riders or more simple performance agreements that just outline the terms of the booking. Within Onlinegigs, it is simple to generate a contract and send to the talent buyer (and copy in other pertinent parties) via fax or email. Check out Jeri Goldstein's article below for more information on the various types of contracts that should be issued. As always, feel free to contact us with any questions you have.

The Right Documents for Booking Gigs

By Jeri Goldstein, Copyright 2006, The New Music Times, Inc.

You've probably read numerous articles espousing the benefits of having a written contract for all of your gigs. You might have even experienced one of those moments when you wish you had had a written contract for that one gig you did for your friend, who just didn't have the agreed upon amount money at the end of the night. Never mind — you are wiser now.

Here is a listing with explanations of a variety of types of contract agreements and supplemental documents that can be used when booking your gigs.

1 . Letter of Confirmation:
There are those times when a formal performance contract may be inappropriate or unnecessary. This type of document is friendly, yet describes the details of the booking agreement fully. It's written in paragraph, letter format and it includes the essentials such as performance time, date, place, producer, artist, who provides what and who is responsible for each item included. This type of letter may be used with organizations and individuals unaccustomed to music business industry standards, such as charities and private parties, for example. Generating Contracts

Sending a contract or performance agreement to a talent buyer after a show has been confirmed is essential to the booking process. Not only does it show that you take yourself seriously but it significantly reduces the chance of misunderstandings the night of the performance. Onlinegigs automates the process of generating a contract. When entering in a new confirmed performance and completing the details, the next step is to click on "create contract". From this page you can customize the contract by changing the standardized rider to your specific rider. If the show is being presented by an outside promoter those details are listed in the promoter section. If the contract is directly with the promoter, then you can update the authorization fields at the bottom of the form as well. The information that you put in rider section will be saved and remembered next time you generate a contract. Once complete, just click on view/print to preview or print a copy or click on fax/email to send to the talent buyer.
